Why Luxury Vinyl Tile Loses Color

Why Luxury Vinyl Tile Can Become Discolored

There are many reasons luxury vinyl tile could start looking discolored, and knowing what they are can help you protect your floor.

Luxury vinyl tile is a wonderful flooring type for many homes and businesses. However, regardless of what color you pick or what texture you use, your floor is vulnerable to staining if you aren’t careful. These stains can get rather difficult to remove, and they can make even a clean floor look messy. There are many reasons luxury vinyl tile could start looking discolored, and knowing what they are can help you protect your floor.

Why Luxury Vinyl Tile Could Start Yellowing

The first potential cause of yellowing in your tile is because moisture gets into your tile’s lower layers. By looking at the surface of your floor, you’ll be able to see a difference in color between dry and damp spots the floor has.

For floors without a strong enough resistance to moisture, mold and mildew will start to develop, which can also play a role in impacting your floor’s color. You should get contaminated floors replaced so that there’s no chance of mold and mildew spreading later.

Adhesives That Don’t Get Applied The Right Way

Don’t use adhesives that aren’t recommended by manufacturers, and don’t apply adhesives the wrong way either. Doing one of these two things could result in your luxury vinyl tile getting damaged from underneath. Over time, types of dirt and grime will find their way through your floor’s lower layers until they eventually leave a noticeable and unsightly yellow stain.

Your Luxury Vinyl Tile is Impacted By Sunlight

Sun damage is one of the big reasons for floor discoloration. Spots on your luxury vinyl tile that get plenty of exposure to sunlight are likely going to fade over time. Be extra mindful of parts of your floor that are near windows or doors because these provide openings for sunlight to pierce through your floor’s surface.
