Improper Care Tips for Luxury Vinyl Tile

What Not to Do When Taking Care of Your Luxury Vinyl Tile

Here is what you shouldn’t do while you are taking care of your luxury vinyl tile.

Luxury vinyl tile makes for a fantastic flooring option for all sorts of rooms in your house. It works in kitchens, family rooms, laundry rooms, and more. There’s a lot you can do to take care of your floors, but sometimes, there are things people do that actually have adverse effects on your tile. Here is what you shouldn’t do while you are taking care of your luxury vinyl tile.

Don’t Use Floor Wax On Your Luxury Vinyl Tile

Floor wax isn’t the recommended material to use on your tile because it dulls the tiles and makes them more slippery. Instead, you will be better off applying a liquid acrylic finish. This gives your floor added protection, which is useful for high-traffic areas of your house. It also adds luster and allows your floor to last longer.

Don’t Leave Blinds and Curtains Open On Sunny Days

While it may be tempting to let natural light from the sun into your house, you actually need to keep curtains and blinds shut when it gets bright outside. The rays of the sun can cause your floor to become discolored and start fading, and curtains and blinds are your best line of defense for keeping these rays from doing damage to your floor.

Don’t Drag Heavy Items Across Your Luxury Vinyl Tile

If you try dragging heavy items across your luxury vinyl tile, you will have a good chance of leaving scratches on the tile, or you could dent the floor. Therefore, if possible, we advise that you lift these heavy items off the ground before moving them. If lifting them doesn’t seem feasible, strips of wood can provide you with floor protection while you move everything.

Don’t Forget to Use a Doormat

This tip is helpful for rooms with doors that lead outside. Doormats are necessary because they help catch all sorts of debris from outside before they have a chance to damage your luxury vinyl tile. If you don’t have doormats near exterior doors, the debris from outside can cause your floor to become scratched.  Your floor could also suffer from stains.
