The Give and Take of Luxury Vinyl Tile

Luxury vinyl tile has its upsides and downsides when compared to other types of flooring.

Luxury vinyl tile (LVT) has the attention of people across many industries. It’s been getting more popular over the years, and there are many reasons associated with this upward trend in popularity. Luxury vinyl tile has its upsides and downsides when compared to other types of flooring.

Longevity

Luxury vinyl tile can last up to 20 years when you put enough effort into maintaining it. Even at a minimum, you’re likely going to get at least 14 years with your tile, so you won’t have a need to spend money time and time again on new flooring. This is much longer than the longevity of the average carpet, which is roughly seven years. LVT can last as long as it does largely in part due to the wear layer it has. This helps it resist damage, and even has an additional function in the ability to muffle sound.

Installing Luxury Vinyl Tile

LVT has to be installed the right way. Caulking is an important part of the installation process. Without it, water will get beneath the tile and start causing damage. But if you get the necessary caulking, you’ll be left with a floor that can comfortably handle moisture. It will have such a solid resistance to moisture that it can be installed even in the dampest areas of your building, such as bathrooms.

Maintenance Requirements of Luxury Vinyl Tile

LVT isn’t much hassle to clean at all. It only requires a little sweeping to stay in good condition. You can use a wet mop for spots that are harder to remove if you prefer. The caulking needs to be maintained to ensure that your floor stays resistant to water. You’ll need to check on your caulking annually and re-caulk if it becomes necessary.
