A Cleaning Guide for Your Plantation Shutters

By following these cleaning tips, you can keep your plantation shutters looking wonderful.

Plantation shutters are beautifully crafted, and they can continue to be beautiful as long as you’re willing to put in the work. While interior plantation shutters are safe against the elements right outside your doorstep, they still have to worry about all kinds of dirt and debris that form within your building’s walls.

Cleaning your shutters regularly can keep them in top form and protect them from future damage that may be more difficult to fix. By following these cleaning tips, you can keep your plantation shutters looking wonderful.

Keep Up With Regular Dusting

Dusting your plantation shutters is one of the easiest ways to keep them clean. Dust will slowly accumulate on your shutters over time, and if you keep waiting, it becomes increasingly difficult to remove the dust.

That’s why you’ll want to make a habit out of removing dust from your shutters roughly once per week. Make sure you work from top to bottom because if you start from the bottom, the dust from the top could fall onto the bottom parts of your shutters, forcing you to dust them again. The tool you use for dusting should also be able to go between the slats with ease.

Use a Safe Cleaner

Dusting alone isn’t going to be enough all of the time. Around once every month, you’ll want to do a deep cleaning, which helps get rid of more resilient pieces of dirt and grime that may have been building up. The cleaner you pick will be dependent on the material from which your plantation shutters are made.

For wooden shutters, don’t use any water or more harsh cleaning materials. Wood can swell from water, among other types of damage that could happen. You’ll be better off using a wood cleaner in these cases.

Wipe Down Your Plantation Shutters

It helps to wipe your plantation shutters down using a damp cloth. This can remove the remainder of dirt on your shutters, as well as remove any cleaner that may still be stuck to them.

After all of the dirt and cleaner substances have been removed, you can remove any remaining moisture from your shutters with the help of a dry towel. Make sure you keep the hinges, joints, and crevices in mind during the drying process.
