Plantation Shutters: Are They Trending Right Now?

Plantation Shutters: Are They Trending Right Now?

Many home buyers are interested in plantation shutters, not just because of the aesthetic they bring to the house’s interior but also because of their durability.

When people think about plantation shutters, they may think about the times they’ve spent with their grandparents. The decor is reminiscent of older times. There may be floral wallpaper, bathroom floors with pink tiles, and the captivating aroma of apple pie fresh out of the oven.

Traditional plantation shutters are built with small louvers, tiny shutter panels that fold up to resemble an accordion-like appearance and some knobs and hooks that can latch them shut. But things have changed. Now, plantation shutters have been modified for the modern age.

Why Go With Plantation Shutters?

Modern plantation shutters have designs that range from the traditional styles from back in the day to more modern options. The style you pick should go with your home’s current aesthetic. Many home buyers are interested in plantation shutters, not just because of the aesthetic they bring to the house’s interior but also because of their durability. These shutters help raise home resale value, so they are a wise investment if you plan on selling your house one day. On top of that, they are an energy-efficient light control option. By controlling how much sunlight gets into your house, you control how bright your house is throughout the day, and you can lower your air conditioning bill because less of the sun’s heat gets inside.

Do Plantation Shutters Work With Any Style of Home?

For traditional-style houses, plantation shutters are perfect. If you use 2-inch louvers that have a center tilt rod, you’ll achieve a look that suits many Victorian, colonial and other kinds of traditional homes.

For modern houses, you may feel like plantation shutters aren’t the best option for you. However, you can adjust shutters in a manner that makes them better-suited for modern homes. For example, there are hidden tilt rods you can use to make your shutters feel more modernized. You could also apply a stained finish to your shutters, which can add a little extra color to your house. We recommend a grey finish if you want to achieve a modern look.
