WPC and SPC, and How They Fare in the Marketplace

WPC and SPC, and How They Fare in the Marketplace

Take a look at the attributes of WPC and SPC.

There are a lot of different waterproof flooring choices from which to choose. The question then becomes: which flooring option will be the best investment? Two of the more popular options available are WPC and SPC. Each of these flooring selections has its upsides and downsides, so we’re going to take a little time to review each one with you. That way, your decision will be easier to make. Take a look at the attributes of WPC and SPC.

About SPC

Of the two options we mentioned, SPC is typically the heavier of them. It’s also usually the cheaper and harder choice. There are many things that make SPC worth your while.

Firstly, the hardness it has grants it strong resistance to denting, meaning it’s perfect if you’re worried about your floor sustaining a lot of damage. It also comes with a solid core, and it doesn’t have any air bubbles in it.

If expense is your concern, SPC can be the better choice in that regard as well because it is cheaper to install than WPC. This makes it accessible for more people. Lastly, SPC comes with considerable resistance to heat.

About WPC

While the benefits of SPC are extensive, there is a whole other list of benefits awaiting you if you go with WPC instead.

To begin, WPC, while not as cheap to install, isn’t as fragile as SPC. This means that the installation has a better chance of going smoothly. This flooring choice is also softer under foot, as well as lighter overall. When you step across WPC, it’s quieter too.

You should also pick WPC if you prioritize the visual appeal of your floor. You can get more realistic-looking visuals when you select this flooring option.

Defining Luxury Vinyl Tile’s Wear Layer

Luxury vinyl tile (LVT) is quite sturdy, while also being a more cost-effective and low-maintenance option. You can get LVT in many styles these days, allowing you to complement any look you may have for your house.

When you’re deciding on a floor to install around the house, you’ll have to think about the wear layer at some point. However, not everyone has heard of this wear layer, so we want to review what it is briefly.

When we talk about the wear layer, we refer to the layer of LVT that gives additional protection between the protective finish at the topmost layer of your tile and the printed design. It’s the layer that minimizes dents and scratches, and it allows your floors to continue looking great.

Understanding the Measurements of Luxury Vinyl Wear Layer

The wear layer gets measured in thousandths of an inch, also known as mil. Keep in mind that mil is different from millimeters. Generally speaking, you get more sturdy flooring if your mil is higher and your wear layer is thicker. The trade-off is that you tend to spend more money on these floors. Therefore, you should find a floor that healthily balances durability with budget.

Deciding on Measurements

As mentioned earlier, you use mil to measure out a wear layer, and how thick you want your floor tiles to be will depend on your situation. Areas with plenty of foot traffic should invest in thicker tiles, as an example.

Look below for some suggestions on measurements based on your property:

  • Normal residential places: At least 12 mil
  • Residential places with high foot traffic: At least 20 mil
  • Commercial properties: At least 28 mil
