Summer Carpet Problems

Carpet Problems That Can Come Up During Summer

Here are some common problems that can happen to your carpet during the summer.

Right now, we’re in the middle of summer. The weather gets hot and humid, so people like to stay inside to stay comfortable. However, summer can do damage inside of your house. One place that can be affected is a carpeted area around your home. Not all of these problems are major ones, but we feel you should be aware that these things can happen. Here are some common problems that can happen to your carpet during the summer.

Carpet Buckling

This is a problem that affects wall-to-wall fitted carpets. In the summer, you might start to see “ripples” in spots where your carpet has loosened and risen up. This “ripple” effect is called buckling.

Summer weather isn’t the only factor that plays into this buckling phenomenon. It can happen due to poor installation of your carpet or by dragging heavy items along the carpet. However, heat and humidity are seen as major causes. To minimize your chances of buckling happening, you should try to keep rooms with carpeting as cool as possible. You’ll likely want to turn on an A/C unit for this reason.

Bad Odor on Your Carpet

Carpets may start getting smelly during summer, and the hot and humid weather could be a driving factor. Over time, your carpet will start to gather all sorts of dirt, dust, and stains. Sometimes, you may even get small pests that cling to your carpeting. The intense summer weather only amplifies the intensity of all of the accumulated dirt, resulting in a pungent odor.

The best way to avoid this problem is to get your carpet cleaned before summer begins. Air fresheners may handle the smell, but you ironically pollute your air with chemicals.

Allergens Getting Stuck To Your Carpet

Speaking of dirt getting stuck to your carpet, it could pose to be dangerous for your health. Allergies can intensify in the summer because allergens like pollen can get caught in your carpeting.

To avoid this problem, you have to constantly vacuum your carpet to prevent allergens from accumulating. It can also help to get them professionally cleaned every now and then.
