Carpeting For Each Room in Your Home

Picking the Best Carpeting for Each Room In Your House

Here’s what you should know to pick the best carpeting for your room.

Carpeting is used in people’s homes across the country. It keeps rooms warm, and it can keep them quieter. Not all carpets are made alike, however. They come in various textures and styles, and they’re made from many different fibers, which leaves many choices available to you. The carpet you pick should go well with the room where it’s being installed, so you should pick carefully.  Here’s what you should know to pick the best carpeting for your room.

Carpeting Fibers

Carpeting can be both aesthetically pleasing and durable. You can have carpets made from either natural or synthetic fibers. Each fiber has different characteristics.

  • Wool: soft touch, crush resistance, fair stain resistance, best used in low-traffic rooms like bedrooms or a formal living room
  • Nylon: can be cleaned easily, superb crush resistance, high abrasion resistance, stain-resistant if manufactured properly, best for high-traffic rooms such as a playroom or hallway.
  • Polyester: decent sunlight resistance, resistance to water-soluble stains, can be rush-resistant depending on the density, best for low to moderate-traffic rooms such as a study or dining room.

Carpeting Pile

Tufted carpeting is the most popular variety of carpeting that is sold in the United States. It has yarn that’s placed into a primary backing, which forms a pile, which is a three-dimensional texture. When picking out your tufted carpeting, you want to consider its density, as well as its pile weight and height. Carpets with more height look more appealing but can be vulnerable to crushing. Denser and heavier carpets have more durability, which helps them to last longer.

Carpeting Padding

Padding will be important for any carpet. It provides extra cushion while you walk on your carpet, and it provides your room with more insulation. With the right padding, your carpeting will have an extended life span, and it can help muffle some unwanted noise to keep your room calmer. The thickness of your padding should vary depending on how much foot traffic goes on in your room. If you select a carpet with an appropriate amount of padding, you’ll maximize the comfort people get from walking around your room.
