Causes for Carpet Stains and What You Can Do About Them

To help handle carpet stains, here is a list of common causes for stains and how you can address them.

Carpet stains can be a nightmare to handle if you aren’t prepared. If you don’t address them quickly, your carpet can become worn down and discolored. Sometimes, if it gets bad enough, you might even need to get an entirely new carpet.

You want to avoid this problem from coming to pass. To help handle carpet stains, here is a list of common causes for stains and how you can address them.

Red Wine

This is a classic cause for carpet stains. Imagine you accidentally spilled a glass, and your beverage meets its fate as it collides with the carpeting. It can take a moment to process what has just occurred, but once you’ve realized your situation, the liquid is already beginning to settle into your carpeting.

The reality is that red wine is a nasty stain to clean. But if you’re quick, you can resolve the problem. A clean white cloth should be used while the wine is still wet. Make sure you don’t scrub because you can spread the wine around even more. Just blot down the affected area until you can’t absorb any more liquid. Then, use some warm water and dishwashing detergent with a tablespoon of vinegar to handle the rest. Blot this new solution on your carpet little by little until the stain is completely gone.

Urine

This is a stain you may experience if you have pets or very young children. The odor urine leaves behind is unpleasant, and the stain it leaves behind is stubborn. Much like with red wine, resolving the problem starts by blotting the stain with a white towel. After that, blot the spot using a clean and damp cloth. The cloth should be dampened with warm water and some white vinegar. Continue the blotting process until the stain has been completely lifted.
