Addressing Cracked Luxury Vinyl Tile

What to Do When Luxury Vinyl Tile Gets Cracked

Here is what you’ll need to do if you see your luxury vinyl tile crack.

Luxury vinyl tile is something that has existed for many years now. Not only is it a practical flooring choice for people’s homes, but it also has the ability to be designed to suit whatever aesthetic you need. It’s the perfect compromise between looks and durability, but there are certain problems that can pop up. One potential problem this tile can face is cracking. If this ever happens, you’ll need to take action to get your floor fixed up. Here is what you’ll need to do if you see your luxury vinyl tile crack.

Understand Why Your Luxury Vinyl Tile Cracked

Having your floor crack is definitely a problem, but before you try looking for solutions, you need to know what caused the floor to become cracked in the first place. By knowing the cause, you can prevent future cracks from happening.

Sometimes, luxury vinyl tile cracks because too much weight gets dropped onto the floor at once, such as if heavy furniture gets dropped onto it. In other instances, the joists, which are long pieces of wood beneath the subfloor, don’t get installed the right way. Joists that are spread too far apart make it possible for floor tiles to bend.

One last cause for cracked tiles is if they are installed on top of control joints. Control joints are cracks that are meant to be there, and they help influence how cracks happen and where they will occur. Tiles that bridge these gaps could become cracked.

Do You Have Large or Small Cracks?

How you respond to cracked flooring depends on the kind of floor cracks you have. Smaller cracks don’t require as much effort to fix. Sometimes, it could be as simple as using nail polish to paint over your chipped flooring.

If your luxury vinyl tile has larger cracks, that’s when things become problematic. When the cracks are bad enough, repairs will likely not be possible, and you’ll have to replace the tiles entirely. Contact a flooring company to see what tiles they have that could replace your old ones.
